Meet James SM Kitchen

The first thing you should know about me is that I value being candid. I believe in the importance of directly speaking the truth and respecting people enough to tell them what I really think. Communicating authentically with my clients is a priority for me.

I intentionally serve those I believe are underserved by the legal profession: religious individuals, university students, principled professionals, employees who refuse to violate their conscience, non-conformists, and those willing to speak the truth even if it makes them a target for governments. I am proud to advocate on behalf of everyday men and women from all walks of life and to serve those who struggle to find a lawyer who understands their values.

It can feel very isolating when you have just lost your job, experienced religious discrimination, or are the only one standing up to a powerful regulator. My goal is to provide a light to my clients and guide them out of the dark time they may be in. With me on your side, you will feel less alone.

I am a litigator committed to fiercely advocating for my clients and upholding their human rights and individual freedoms—whether freedom of expression, freedom of religion, health freedom, or the right to work free of discrimination in their workplaces or chosen professions. I regularly represent professionals facing charges of unprofessional conduct, employees who have been wrongfully terminated, students and others who have been subjected to discrimination on the basis of their religious beliefs, and individuals seeking to challenge the decisions of government boards and agencies. I have appeared before trial and appellate level courts in multiple provinces, as well as various boards and tribunals across the country.

I am not afraid to speak the truth, both inside and outside the courtroom, and to hold the powerful accountable to the law. Given that I am not beholden to corporate or government interests, I am free to fight without reservation for those challenging the status quo or resisting government overreach. My cases, some of which are well-publicized, are often covered by various podcasts and prominent independent media such as Rebel News, Western Standard, and The Epoch Times. I was privileged to testify as an expert witness during the Saskatoon session and Vancouver session of the National Citizens Inquiry in 2023.

My Christian faith motivates and inspires me to fight for truth, free speech, the freedom to believe, equality before the law, and the rule of law. For me, practicing law is a calling and defending these ideals is a passion.

If you are looking to receive advice, resolve a private dispute, challenge a law, obtain a severance, enforce your human rights, face off against your professional regulator, or take your case public, I may be the lawyer for you. I accept cases in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
