It is increasingly difficult to operate a religious organization, be it a church, religious school, or pregnancy center. Segments of Canadian society and many government agencies have become less than tolerant of the beliefs and values of traditional religious minorities. If government authorities or other organizations start making demands, issuing threats, attempting to impose restrictions, or filing claims against religious institutions, they need an advocate with the knowledge of the unique areas of law that apply and the experience to properly represent their interests. I can fill that role.
I have been privileged to represent Christian schools in human rights and constitutional litigation and several pastors, such as James Coates, who have been jailed or exorbitantly fined for staring down the growing tyranny of Canadian governments. I have also advised and represented churches facing government pressure to act contrary to their religious convictions, including Church in the Vine of Edmonton and its pastors when they were fined tens of thousands of dollars for refusing to adhere to the unreasonable demands of government inspectors.
If you are a religious organization encountering a human rights violation or regulatory overreach by the government, my team and I can help. If you are a pastor in need of advice, contact me. I have counselled dozens of pastors during COVID and represented pastors in various internal and external disputes.
