Barry Neufeld is a former school trustee for the Chilliwack School District. In 2017, he began publicly expressing his concerns about what he viewed as the sexualization and ideological indoctrination of children in local public schools and his objections to the ideological belief system that has come to be referred to as Gender Ideology.
In short, Gender Ideology rejects the biology of sex in favour of the quasi-religious belief that boys can become girls and girls can become boys—not merely in their own minds, but in actuality. Children who come to hold such beliefs sometimes, with the encouragement of adult believers and doctors providing “gender-affirming care”, request their healthy sexual organs be surgically removed even while they are still minors. The most common of these are teenage girls, often on the spectrum, who have their breasts permanently removed. This process of attempting to change from one sex to the other is referred to as “transitioning”, hence the term “transgender”. Barry has referred to transitioning children as child abuse, as it obviously is.
For expressing this view, his general opposition to Gender Ideology, and his belief that sex is unchangeable, Barry was recently convicted by the BC Human Rights Tribunal of “discrimination” and “hate speech”. The Tribunal ruled in its decision that people must not, as Barry did, express their belief that a man is a man if that man claims he is a woman. People must “accept” that such a man is in fact a woman. If they do not, it will be regarded by the Tribunal as discrimination toward transgender people and perhaps also amount to hate speech. As punishment for daring to oppose Gender Ideology, which is apparently the new state religion in British Columbia, the Tribunal fined Barry $750,000. This is the highest financial punishment in the 50-year history of human rights tribunals in Canada. The size of the fine is plainly designed to intimidate everyone who doesn’t believe in Gender Ideology into silence.
Barry is represented by lawyer James SM Kitchen. Mr. Kitchen will seek to overturn the Tribunal’s decision by way a of a judicial review at the BC Supreme Court. Barry is currently raising the funds to cover the cost of this legal process and any further appeals to follow. If you want to support Barry in this vital endeavor, please consider donating here. All funds raised will be provided to Barry and Mr. Kitchen for the purposes of advancing Barry’s case.
